Upper Newtownards Road House, Belfast – Kitchen Conversion

A refurbishment of a 3 storey red brick Victorian house featuring an expanded kitchen with improved natural lighting and open plan living space.

The architects redesigned this Belfast residence, which initially suffered from "small dark rooms and a lot of underutilised space resulting in minimal actual living space."

The kitchen expansion extended to the boundary wall, whilst the adjoining dining room was removed to create an integrated kitchen, dining and living area.

A substantial roof light was incorporated to flood the space with natural light and overcome the original cramped conditions.

Salvaged brick from the original structure was repurposed as an internal feature wall, combined with polished concrete surfaces to achieve a contemporary aesthetic.

The design also incorporated a utility room and glass panelled doors providing access to an external porch area.
