River House
Client Aspirations
"To create a contemporary riverside home that felt calm, private and deeply connected to the water"
Challenges
The riverbank setting, mature trees and ground conditions necessitated careful positioning. The structure needed complete water-facing openness whilst maintaining shelter and restrained visual presence.
Design Response
The design responds to the river and its ecological context. Rammed earth finishes provide monolithic, earthy tones echoing the riverbank. Sculpted volumes step with the landscape, opening via deep terraces and expansive glazing. A corten-clad entrance adds warmth and contrast, creating "a calm, contemporary house that sits quietly within the riverside landscape."
