Drumourne House - New Contemporary Bungalow Overlooking Carnlough Bay
Client Aspirations
"To create a bespoke open plan home where natural light and green technology features" whilst capturing views over Carnlough Bay and harmonising with adjacent farm structures.
Challenges
Development within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, navigating a steeply inclined terrain, contextualising the building amongst agricultural infrastructure, maintaining the natural stone vernacular and gaining outline planning approval for the site.
Design Response
The architects employed natural stone façades referencing existing field boundaries. The single-room-deep layout with mezzanine maximises Bay views and daylight. Stone walls create an enclosed western garden contrasting the expansive eastern outlook. Spaces include open-plan living and dining areas, kitchen, two bedrooms, ensuite and mezzanine study.
