Laurel Hill House – Conservation Restoration and Extension to Listed Dwelling in County Derry
Client Aspirations
Restoration and conversion of a B1 listed dwelling and coach house, barn and outbuildings, and a new extension to form a multi-generational home
Challenges
Restoration of B1 listed house and coach house; liaison with HED (Historic Environment Division) for approvals; within Sperrins Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and an Area of Local Nature Conservation and Amenity importance; the dwelling was a former Rectory which became vacant and was suffering from a degree of neglect
Design Response
The scheme restores the entire listed residence whilst preserving its frontage and key features. The reconfigured interior accommodates formal rooms, bedrooms and utility spaces. A contemporary single-storey extension provides open-plan living areas, whilst the coach house offers additional guest bedrooms. Ancillary structures include a gym and potting shed. External interventions encompass a courtyard entrance and patio with fire pit.
