Sperrin House Derry – Design of Contemporary Rural Home County Derry
Client Aspirations
"To design a bespoke home for a growing family who wished to enjoy the spectacular views over the Sperrin mountain range both internally and externally and to integrate successfully within the rural mountain context."
Challenges
Planning restrictions in the Sperrin's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, securing outline planning permission, navigating a sloping site, and providing covered external areas.
Design Response
A bespoke contemporary dwelling that balances traditional and modern aesthetics through vernacular forms. The design features a timber-clad barn-like upper structure atop a textured boarded-marked concrete base, with a stone-inspired entrance pavilion. Accommodation includes five bedrooms with en-suites, lounge, kitchen, dining, playroom, study, library, music room, internal courtyard, and double garage with office.
