Olive's View House Extension
Client Aspirations
Clients wanted a bespoke contemporary design emphasising natural light, extensive glazing to maximise views over Dungloe Bay and Inishfree Island, strong indoor-outdoor connection, high ceilings, central kitchen for gatherings, and accommodation for three generations.
Challenges
The site's location within an "Especially High Scenic Amenity" area presented significant constraints. The primary challenge was ensuring the extension integrated seamlessly with the existing dwelling without becoming visually prominent in this sensitive landscape.
Design Response
The architects designed a side extension integrating with the adjacent rockface for natural screening. Dark tones, corrugated metal cladding and natural stone were selected to blend with the landscape. Features include an open-plan kitchen-living-dining area, glass balustrades framing unobstructed views, a covered year-round outdoor seating area with fire, expanded master suite and a garage with kayak storage.
